How it works

Bringing home a Highlandkatz kitten takes five steps. Here is exactly what happens and what it costs.

  1. Apply. Fill in our kitten application. It helps us get to know you and the kitten you’re hoping for.
  2. Join the waitlist or reserve a kitten. Once you’re approved, a deposit of 20% of the kitten’s price reserves a kitten from the available kittens page, or a kitten from an upcoming litter. [PLACEHOLDER: how is the deposit paid? Is there a deposit to join the waitlist?]
  3. Watch your kitten grow. [PLACEHOLDER: do families get photo or video updates while they wait? How often?]
  4. Pay the balance. The rest of the price is due before your kitten travels home.
  5. Go-home day at about 4 months. Your kitten is vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and microchipped, with a health certificate. Pick up in person, or choose one of our delivery options.

Prices

Kittens are $800 to $1,500, depending on the kitten. Each kitten’s price is listed on the available kittens page.

Deposits

The deposit is 20% of your kitten’s price and goes toward it. Deposits are non-refundable, but if your plans change they can be transferred to a future litter.

What’s included with every kitten

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Deworming
  • Vet health exam
  • Microchip
  • Health certificate
  • CFA or TICA registration papers
  • Pedigree
  • Trupanion pet insurance (activate it when your kitten comes home)
  • Our written health guarantee

Spay and neuter

Whether a kitten is spayed or neutered before going home depends on the kitten. We’ll tell you which applies to your kitten before you reserve.

[PLACEHOLDER: anything to add, e.g. the age by which a pet kitten must be spayed or neutered if it goes home intact?]

Our contract

Every kitten is placed on a contract. The main terms are:

  • Your cat lives indoors only.
  • No declawing, ever.
  • Contact us first about any health or other issues, including if you can ever no longer keep your cat.
  • Take your kitten to your own veterinarian within 5 days of going home (see our health guarantee).

Protect yourself from kitten scams

Kitten scams are common, and scammers often copy the names, photos and websites of real, established breeders. Please keep these simple rules in mind, whoever you buy from:

  • The only genuine contact details for Highlandkatz are barber37876@gmail.com and (865) 556-2904. Messages from any other email address, phone number or social media account claiming to be us are not from us.
  • Before sending money to anyone, talk to the breeder by phone or video, and ask to see the kitten live.
  • Be wary of prices far below what other breeders charge, pressure to pay quickly, and requests to pay by gift card, cryptocurrency or a money transfer app to a stranger.
  • Be wary of “shipping agents” who contact you asking for extra fees for crates, insurance or vaccinations along the way.
  • Check that the kitten will come with registration papers from a real registry such as CFA or TICA.

If something doesn’t feel right, contact us or call (865) 556-2904 and we’ll tell you whether it’s really us.
